Finding the cause
Your psychiatrist reviews your sleep pattern, caffeine and alcohol use, screen time, shift work, medications, pain, breathing problems at night and mood. Keeping a two-week sleep diary before the visit is very helpful. Snoring, gasping or severe daytime sleepiness may point to sleep apnea, which needs a sleep study.
