Teenagers
Teens are seen with respect for their growing independence. We explain confidentiality and its limits at the start, so both the teen and parents know what will be shared.

Supporting Rochester students and families
Families with children at Spaulding High School and Rochester Middle School come to us when struggles start to affect learning, friendships or home life. With your consent we can share clinical information for a 504 plan or IEP meeting.
Living in Rochester
Rochester residents often have long working days in manufacturing, healthcare and retail, and the drive to Salem takes about an hour. For that reason we set up most Rochester care around secure video visits, keeping in-person appointments for the times they genuinely add something, such as some first evaluations.
How the evaluation works
Parents share the history first. The psychiatrist then spends time with the child, using conversation or play for younger children and private time for teens. With your permission we gather input from teachers, counselors and the pediatrician.
Getting care from Rochester
Our office is in Salem, about an hour from Rochester, so most Rochester patients see us by secure video from home. When an in-person visit is needed, we plan it so the trip is worthwhile.
Frequently asked questions
Will my child need medication?
Not automatically. It is considered only when it is likely to help.
Can you speak with my child's school?
With your written permission, yes.
Can child visits be by video?
Many can. The psychiatrist may ask to see your child in person at times.
Do I have to travel to Salem from Rochester?
Usually not for every visit. Most Rochester patients are seen by secure video, with an in-person visit in Salem only when needed.
