Teenagers
Teens are seen with respect for their growing independence. We explain confidentiality and its limits at the start, so both the teen and parents know what will be shared.

Supporting Portsmouth students and families
Families with children at Portsmouth High School and Portsmouth Middle School come to us when struggles start to affect learning, friendships or home life. With your consent we can share clinical information for a 504 plan or IEP meeting. Older teens heading to Great Bay Community College or elsewhere can continue with us while they are in New Hampshire.
Living in Portsmouth
Portsmouth brings together a busy downtown, the Pease Tradeport and a large military and shipyard community. Many residents work irregular hours in hospitality or healthcare, and some cross the bridge into Maine for work. Video visits are popular, provided you are in New Hampshire at the time of the appointment.
Family-centered treatment
Plans may include parent guidance, therapy referral, school recommendations and, only when likely to help, medication with careful monitoring of growth, sleep and appetite.
Getting care from Portsmouth
From Portsmouth, our Salem office is about 45 to 55 minutes by car. Many Portsmouth patients choose secure video for most visits and come to Salem when an in-person appointment adds something.
Frequently asked questions
What ages do you see?
Children from age 4 and teens through 17, continuing into adulthood.
How should I explain the visit to my child?
Keep it simple: a doctor who helps with feelings, worries or focus wants to get to know them.
Do you provide therapy for children?
We focus on evaluation and medication and help connect families with child therapists.
Can I have a video visit while I am in Maine?
No. Our psychiatrists are licensed in New Hampshire, so you must be physically in New Hampshire during a video visit.
